BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested on Friday, March 10 when Bedford Police officers were called to the 2900 block of Ted Jones Drive after a report of a physical altercation in progress at 8 p.m.
When police arrived they spoke to a woman, her male roommate, and the woman’s mother
All three told police, 35-year-old Randall Pruett had entered the apartment uninvited and began threatening all three of the women. It was also reported that he smacked one of the women in the face and then left the apartment.
After the incident, the three women went to Pruett’s apartment to retrieve some of the woman’s belongings. He allowed the two women to enter the apartment and retrieve the belongings. A separate verbal argument occurred and the two women left.
Pruett then returned to the woman’s apartment again and attempted to force his way into the apartment but the door was locked. Those inside the apartment refused to answer the door. Pruett left and returned to his apartment.
The woman requested to sign a battery affidavit.
Officers went to Pruett’s apartment to speak to him. He denied ever getting into a physical altercation with the woman but did admit that he went to the woman’s apartment but only to speak to the woman through the door. Pruett became agitated and belligerent while conversing with officers.
Pruett was detained and transported to the Bedford Police Department for processing then to the Lawrence County Jail.
While at the Lawrence County Jail, jail staff attempted to switch handcuffs from those belonging to a Bedford Officer to those of the jail staff. While attempting to switch the cuffs, Pruett began to physically resist arrest. He tensed up and pulled away to the point that he had to be restrained by the Bedford Police officer and additional jail staff. Pruett had to be carried to a chair and was eventually placed in a chair restraint to prevent him from causing further issues.
Pruett is facing charges of residential entry, battery, and resisting arrest.
