Martha Jane (Davis) Weir, 95, of Mitchell, passed away Friday, March 11th, at her home.
Martha was born in Mitchell, on December 26th, 1926 to parents Fred and Nell Davis. She was born, raised, and passed away in her home on the Davis family farm, now in the fourth generation of ownership. She was married to Charles Weir in 1944 for more than 50 years. Martha and Charles enjoyed Airstream traveling, developing many close friendships over twenty years of “Air-streaming.”
Martha had many interests. She enjoyed her family, cooking, gardening, and was an avid seamstress, quilter, weaver, and needle crafter. She was a member of the Quarry Quilters Club and was the featured Quilter in the 2016 club’s show. She was a kind and generous person, giving her lovingly crafted quilts, hand-knit socks, bags, and other items to family members and friends.
Martha Weir is survived by two children, Dr. C. Douglas Weir and his wife Carol, of Mitchell, and Elizabeth (Weir) Brown, and spouse Philip, of Charlotte, North Carolina, five grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sisters, Ruth Knowles and Mary Greiner.
A private, graveside service is planned. Memorial gifts can be made in Martha’s memory to Adaptive Hospice in Jeffersonville.
