JACKSON CO. — Indiana Department of Transportation contractor Force Construction Company plans to begin work on or after Monday, April 4, on a $2.4 million bridge rehabilitation project on U.S. 31 in Jackson County. The project includes deck overlays on two bridges located approximately four miles south of Seymour, one over Vernon Fork Muscatatuck River and the other over a drainage ditch near I-65.
Construction will occur in two phases for each bridge. Traffic will be restricted to one lane with temporary signals during construction. A 45 mph speed limit will also be in place. Work will occur on the bridges separately, starting with the bridge over the Muscatatuck River through early August. Both bridges are expected to be complete by October 31, 2022.
The contract was awarded to Force in August 2021 for a total of $2,418,040.21. INDOT reminds drivers to use extra caution, avoid distractions, and consider worker safety when driving through active construction zones. All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.
