JAY CO. – Late Thursday, March 24, 2022, investigators with the Indiana State Police Ft. Wayne Post were requested to investigate the death of a five-year-old child.
Officers with the Portland Police Department responded to a home in the 600 block of South Western Avenue in Portland, IN last night at approximately 11:30 p.m. for a call of a five-year-old child that was unresponsive. The Portland Police Department requested that investigators from the Indiana State Police respond, and the State Police assumed the investigation.
An autopsy was conducted earlier today in Ft. Wayne. This is an ongoing and active investigation and there is no other information to release at this time. The Indiana State Police continue to work closely with the Portland Police Department, Jay County Prosecutor’s Office and the Indiana Department of Child Services as this investigation continues.
