MITCHELL – Marion Township Volunteer Fire Department firefighters were alerted to a barn fire at 222 Bono Road Sunday at 3:17 p.m.
The fire was reported by a Huron VFD firefighter who was passing by the area. Huron VFD responded for mutual aid.
When firefighters arrived on the scene with Engine 52 they found the approximate 40 by 20 pole barn engulfed in flames.
“Two attack lines were deployed to protect the two exposures,” said Chief Paul Gillespite. “A power line was down in front of the structure and Orange County REMC was called to secure the utilities. Friends of the family arrived on the scene and firefighters were directed to the garage entrance and were able to secure the power running from the breaker box in the garage to the fire building.”
The fire did cause some minor damage to a horse trailer and there was no damage to a second pole barn.
“The homeowners were returning from vacation and were not on scene at the time of the fire,” said Chief Gillespie. “The cause of the fire remains under investigation until family members are home.”
