MITCHELL – After discussing the possible course of action with the former Dana Building, the Mitchell City Council decided to table the discussion until the April 4th meeting.
Currently, the building is leased to SilverStream since 2008 who has used only 11,000 square feet for their needs. With more space available, Lehigh Hanson has requested the use of 20,000 square feet for storage of their equipment, that ranges from $13 million to $17 million in worth.
Additionally, the Mitchell Kiwanis and Regeneration Thrift Store have used the building for their needs, roughly 2,000 square feet each.
Since the city released a public notification of a lease agreement or a potential sale of the building there has been small interest in purchasing it from one company so far.
Byron Steele, Mitchell City Attorney, advised the council to receive appraisals before agreeing to any lease agreements or sale of the property. SilverStream has also requested advanced notice of any sale, as to have enough time to move the large amounts of equipment currently stored at the building.
Mitchell City Council members expressed that they would like to keep all of the current companies and non-profit organizations the ability to continue to use the building for their needs.
Representatives from the Lehigh Mitchell plant and SilverStream LLC appeared at the council meeting to answer questions and address the concerns the council members had.
