BEDFORD – Lawrence Superior Court II Judge Bob Cline sentenced a Bedford woman to 792 days in the Lawrence County Jail after she failed to comply with the terms of her probation.
Alyssa M. Martin, 25, had previously pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine charge, a Level 6 felony, and she was sentenced to 910 days in jail, with 48 of those days executed, and the additional 862 days suspended, as a part of a negotiated plea agreement with the State of Indiana. She also agreed to serve 365 days on supervised probation and complete 40 hours of community service, beginning in April 2021. However, she failed to complete her community service, pay fees associated with probation and comply with a substance abuse evaluation, which violated the terms of her probation. On Thursday, Judge Cline ordered her to serve 792 days in jail for the violations.
“This is one of those cases where an offender fails to take the opportunity to create change in her life,” said Lawrence County Prosecuting Attorney Samuel C. Arp II. “When this happens, after Judge Cline carefully examines the individual’s criminal history and current behavior, he appropriately sentences the individual to prison, or in this instance, jail. Second chances are given, but ultimately, it’s up to the offender to make the change. When they don’t, it’s only appropriate that they’re remanded to jail.”
