BEDFORD – The Bedford Board of Works held a regular meeting Monday afternoon to discuss and approve multiple requests.
Fire Chief John Hughes requested hiring Adam W. Higgins as a new firefighter in the department after he completed the necessary training required for the position. The board approved the request.
Bedford Police Chief Terry Moore then requested the acceptance of retirement by Bedford Police Major Kevin Jones after serving the department for over 30 years, which then lead to probationary promotions within the department to adjust the needs of the department with this retirement. This included:
- Captain Jesse Crane – Major
- Sergeant Chase Hamilton – Captain
- Officer Clint Swanson – Sergeant
Bedford Street Commissioner David Flinn then requested seven temporary parking spaces on the south side of the downtown square from April 5th until May 2nd along 16th Street during the early voting period. The board approved the request.
Denise Henderson then requested the renewal of the Cyber Security Insurance for the City and mentioned that after reviewing three separate bids for the services, the city will use the same services that have increased 62 percent from an $8,000 annual payment to $12,960. The board approved the request as the services have been increasingly important over the last few years.
Lastly, Utilities Director Misty Adams requested change orders from Lochmueller Group about the Waste Water Treatment Plant Improvement project as well as a sanitary sewer agreement with John McBride to reroute the sewer lines from the Riley Lift Station that will be eliminated as part of the upcoming projects. The board approved the requests before adjourning.
