Walter Eugene Merry, 88, of Mitchell, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2022, at his residence.
Born February 3, 1934, in Mitchell, he was the son of Orland Randolph and Josephine Delpha (Hicks) Merry. He married Rose Marie Lynch on July 2, 1955.
Walter was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He enjoyed bowling and he loved animals. Walter retired from General Motors and was a member of the UAW Local 440. He was blessed to have many wonderful neighbors.
Survivors include his wife Rose Marie Merry of Mitchell; siblings Donald Merry of Mitchell, Doris Flath of Bloomfield, Darlene (Gary) Sullivan of Mitchell, and Kathy Wineinger of French Lick.
His parents and siblings, Vera Imogene Merry, Norman R. Merry, Francis Merry, Barbara Waltz, and Shirley Smith preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday April 28 in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Dr. Robert Coursen officiating. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107. Entombment will be at Cresthaven Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Wednesday and from 10:00 a.m. Thursday until the time of service at the funeral home.
