FORT WAYNE – Thursday, Congressman Jim Banks (IN-03) announced the winners of northeast Indiana’s annual Congressional Art Competition for high school students.
The students were asked to create a piece of art that reflects the theme “Indiana.”
The Winners for the 2022 Congressional Art Competition are:
1st Place: Reflections, Alessia Piatti from Central Noble Jr/Sr High School
2nd Place: Canoe Trip, Sarah Ellison from Blackford Jr/Sr High School
3rd Place: Mad Anthony, Madeline Phuong from Homestead High School
People’s Choice Award: New World, Nurul Faiyzah Tarsa Tarma from Homestead High School
Honorable Mention: A Family of Friendship, Molly Pierson from Bishop Dwenger High School
Each spring, Members of the U.S. House of Representatives sponsor the nationwide Congressional Art Competition which serves as an opportunity to recognize and encourage artistic talent in each congressional district. The competition is open to all high school students.
The overall winner of the district’s competition will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol. The exhibit in Washington will also include artwork from every congressional district. The winner receives two airline tickets from Southwest Airlines to Washington D.C. to attend a reception held in their honor. The second and third place winners as well as the People’s Choice Award winner will be displayed in the District Office.
Thirty-nine pieces of artwork were submitted in this year’s competition from schools across northeast Indiana. Entries were submitted both virtually and physically.
