According to the U.S. Department of Transportation National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd. (Sumitomo) is recalling certain Sumitomo and Falken tires, as deformation may occur near the bead, which could result in separation.
With this, vehicles with these tires fail to comply with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 119, “New Pneumatic Tires-Other Than Passenger Cars.”
Tire bead separation can increase the risk of a crash and serious injury if not corrected. Sumitomo will notify owners and replace the affected tires, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on May 20, 2022.
