BLOOMINGTON – As IU campuses enter the summer sessions, the university’s COVID-19 operations will be adjusted to meet the current demand for services as well as match the current community spread.
Testing
Beginning May 31, IU will pause universal on-campus testing. This means drop-off testing at IU Bloomington, IUPUI, and the regional campuses, as well as the rapid antigen tests available at IU Fort Wayne and IUPUC, will no longer be available. For those campuses with on-campus health centers, medical appointments for symptomatic testing will continue to be available as part of a provider visit. Rapid tests are available at local pharmacies and other locations or search for a local testing site.
Contact tracing
IU will still provide instructions for isolation for those individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19. Positive tests should be reported via the self-report form. Following a report, the individual will receive the instructions for isolation and next steps via their IU email.
Masks
Wearing a mask will continue to be optional on all IU campuses moving into the summer. KN95/N95 masks will still be offered on campus to students, faculty, and staff.
Events and conferences
The University Events Review Committee continues to offer specific guidance for both on and off-campus events and conferences. Updated guidance and a new event registry portal for events will be launched on July 1.
COVID-19 vaccines and boosters
IU campuses with on-campus health centers will continue to offer COVID-19 vaccines and boosters as supplies last. Appointments can be made directly with your campus’s health center. Vaccines and boosters also continue to be available at many retail locations in communities across the state.
COVID-19 vaccine requirement, exemptions
Being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or having an approved exemption is an ongoing requirement for all IU students, faculty, and staff. You can attest to being vaccinated or request an exemption at any time. If you had an approved exemption for the 2021-22 academic year, that exemption will carry over to the 2022-23 academic year; you do not need to request another exemption.

IU’s COVID 19 website — iu.edu/covid — will continue to be the best source of COVID-19 information specific to IU students, faculty, and staff. The state of Indiana’s COVID-19 site — coronavirus.in.gov — provides information on vaccine and testing locations throughout the state.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s COVID-19 site provides overall guidance as well as country-specific dashboards on the community spread of the virus.
