SALEM – May Day at Beck’s Mill is this Saturday with a memorial dedication to volunteers that are no longer with us.
Beck’s Mill, located at 4433 South Becks Mill Road, is a historic gristmill in Washington County, seven miles southwest of Salem. It was built in 1808, rebuilt in 1864 after a fire, one year after John Hunt Morgan demanded ransom for every Washington County mill to be spared from burning.
There will be a Civil War encampment, an art show by Bradie Shrum Elementary students, blacksmith demonstrations, a cane carver, metal chain construction, food, and entertainment, grinding at the mill, and activities for children.
Mt. Carmel Church will be hosting a chicken barbecue.
The event kicks off at 11 a.m. with local Boy Scouts raising the flag and the honor program for past volunteers.
