BEDFORD – The 23rd annual Great U.S. 50 Yard Sale is taking place through the remainder of the weekend, with locations here locally in Bedford for all to join in.
From its start in 2000 to support local tourism, the sale has grown to a large annual event with participation in Colorado, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, and Maryland, according to a news release from founder Tom Taylor.
“Our county tourism was seeking stronger government support, but many people thought only motels and restaurants benefited from tourism,” Taylor said. “The yard sale is a way in which everyone can benefit from tourism, as it brings in buyers from many states.”
Authorities are asking you to be careful if you are running a sale or just visiting them. Drivers should keep their speeds down and be alert to hazards, such as pedestrians crossing the highway or walking along the route.
If you are searching for a sale, you should make sure not to stop suddenly and keep a safe distance from vehicles ahead of you, as they may suddenly stop. And make sure you park in a safe spot if you do find a sale you want to visit.
Be sure to make your way out and support some of these yard sales through the weekend.
