BEDFORD – The first games of the season for the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County were played Saturday morning, which featured the BNL Softball Team throwing out the first pitch.
Boys & Girls Club Athletic Director Kristen Calantine hopes that this season will provide a great learning experience for all of the children this year.
“I want them to have fun, that is the most important thing. I want them to have the opportunity to walk away having learned something this season,” said Calantine. “We only had a few girls sign up for softball this year, and so we had to place them on co-ed teams. Some of them have never played baseball, so it will be a great opportunity for them to learn and work together.”
Boys & Girls Club Director Frank Decker said being able to watch the teams play and work together will be a great way to watch the children grow into who they are.
“We have a total of 13 teams participating in our league this year, from t-ball to youth pitch baseball, so it will be great to watch these teams play this year,” Decker said. “This will teach them to work well together, and offer a different perspective for the children this year, especially those younger girls who wanted to sign up for softball. They will have a great opportunity this year, to learn the ins and outs of the game as a part of the co-ed baseball team.”
