BEDFORD – John Lowery Municipal Pool will be closed on Saturday, June 18th, and Sunday, June 19th for the Hubert Wheatley Memorial Classic Swim meet.
Formerly known as the Quarry Classic, the event was renamed to honor the memory and legacy of Hubert Wheatley, and the contributions he made to the sport.
Hubert selflessly donated his time to Middle School, High School, College, USA Swimming, National, and international meets, before making Bedford his home before passing in November of 2016.
Every year, “The Hubie” marks one of the biggest events of the year for Lawrence County Aquatics as it allows LCA’s swimmers to see where they match up with the other competitors in their age groups.
The pool will reopen to the public on Monday, June 20th at noon. For questions or concerns about the closure, you can contact the Parks Department at (812) 275-5692.
