BLOOMINGTON — Deputies saved a man’s life by applying a tourniquet to his wound Sunday.
Monroe County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to the West Country Club trailhead for the Bloomington Rail Trail just before 4 p.m. after a report a man had been shot.
According to initial reports, one gunshot was heard followed by a man screaming. Police say the man had been shot and robbed. Police found the male victim inside a tent next to an unpaved gravel trail next to the paved Rail Trail. The male was transported by an IU Lifeline ambulance to IU Bloomington Hospital for treatment.
Police were unable to locate the suspect.
The sheriff’s office says the shooting is believed to be an isolated incident, and there is no danger to the public.
