JASPER – The Dubois County Art Guild at the Jasper City Mill in Jasper, has a new exhibit up and it will be on display through October 2022.
The DCAG Gallery Walk exhibit changes every 6 months. The public is invited to the Jasper City Mill, open Thursday through Sunday.
Jacinta Wuerth, of Otwell, is the featured artist for this time period. Jacinta is an active member of the Dubois County Art Guild. She has used her past studies in a variety of mediums to explore and create new works.
“Creativity has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember,” said Jacinta Wuerth “From my childhood, when my grandmother taught me sewing/embroidery skills I have explored a diversity of creative expressions from printmaking, drawing, watercolor, furniture restoration, bookmaking, to cooking and home decor. Shifting with my seasons of life, I learned my skills from others who had mastered them. There is a deep harmony I find in creating, a sense that all is at peace within me and the world around me. My inspiration first comes as an impression, such as a color, or shadow image, which deepens as I explore, my finished expression. Fascination with God’s handiwork in creation fuels color and form in my work.”
Currently, displayed at the Mill is a portion of my “Plastic Bag Collection” which represents a season of watercolor explorations in which I began to open myself up intuitively. Each experiment of color and form, they were stored away in plastic bags, because I deemed them to be “experimental play”. One day, during a studio visit, a friend began looking through them, and I discovered that “play” can be shared as “art”, perhaps even more so when done intuitively. I have selected small pieces, which have not been exhibited anywhere else. More can be seen on my Facebook Page: Jacinta Wuerth Arts.
In addition to Jacinta’s art, the other art guild members have a collection of their artwork in the gallery walk as well.
All artwork at the Jasper City Mill DCAG Gallery Walk is original and for sale. The work consists of oil, watercolor, drawing, acrylic, photography, print, sculpture, and 3D wall pieces. Summer through fall is a great time to visit the Jasper City Mill and see the exhibit in the river walk area. Its location next to the river delivers a refreshing walk in the warm weather. Spend an afternoon with the family and watch the corn grinding and listen to the demonstrations and stories about the mill.
If you are looking for something different and original for your home or just browsing for enjoyment, the Jasper City Mill provides a unique atmosphere to do so. Shop at the mill for gifts, bakery items, homemade jellies, and much more. The mill also has a beautiful collection of Amish-made hickory furniture, numerous artisans’ merchandise as well as the art on the Gallery Walk.
The Dubois County Art Guild promotes the appreciation of art and art education in the Dubois County communities. Artists are welcome to join the art group for sharing, support, learning, and painting.
The guild meets on the first Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Jasper Arts Center.
