Bloomington Animal Shelter is overcrowded and waiving adoption fees

BLOOMINGTON – The City of Bloomington Animal Care and Control announced that adoption fees will be waived for all shelter animals for the rest of July 2022.

The adoption fees were waived due to a generous donation made in honor of Judy Elbring, a lifelong animal advocate, who provided many elderly shelter dogs with wonderful and peaceful end-of-life care in her northern California mountain home.

The regular adoption fees are:

  • Dogs & Cats under five years: $75
  • Dogs & Cats five years and older: $55

Walk-in hours are from Noon until 4 p.m. today and remember adoption fees are suspended until August 1.

The shelter is full, and the number of animals mainly dogs has increased this summer to where it’s nearly unsustainable. The goal is not to euthanize any animal.

Officials hope to facilitate the best match between you and your new canine or feline best friend. During the adoption counseling process, staff members will ask questions about your previous animal experience, your lifestyle, and your expectations for a new pet, in order to try to help you find the animal of your dreams.
