VELPEN – Three Indiana corporate citizens – Elevatus Architecture, Garmong Construction Services, and OFS – are joining ranks with first responders statewide in hosting a Sept. 16 sporting clay tournament here to benefit the Indiana Sheriffs’ Youth Ranch for future law enforcement officers, at-risk kids, young witnesses and victims of crime.
“Proceeds from our 5th Annual Sheriffs’ Shotgun Shoot will go toward the further development and continued operation of our new Indiana Sheriffs’ Youth Ranch for students statewide,” said former Marion County Sheriff John Layton, ISYR board president. “Part of our academies’ curriculum focuses on safe firearm storage and safe hunting. We are grateful for a growing list of supporters stepping forward to support our mission to make Hoosier teens and hometowns safer.”
Layton said local law enforcement executives and officers are excited to team up with Elevatus of Fort Wayne; Garmong of Evansville, Indianapolis, and Terre Haute; and OFS of Huntingburg for the popular firearms-safety fundraiser, hosted each year at OFS’ Cool Springs Education Center located between Huntingburg and Jasper.
The cost is a tax-deductible donation of $125 Per Sporting Clay Shooter or $750 Six-Person Team and $250 for Station Sponsors.
Layton said the event includes the use of Cool Springs’ world-class sporting clay course, morning and afternoon safety briefings for participants, 12-gauge steel shot ammunition, sporting clay targets, a catered lunch, snacks, and non-alcoholic beverages.
Each year’s popular Sheriffs’ Shotgun Shoot sells out early, Layton said. He suggested law enforcement agencies, fire departments, veterans’ organizations, sporting goods stores, and shooting clubs register now for morning and afternoon six-person teams and station sponsorships. Female and student participants and teams are encouraged, he added.
Trophies are presented to top teams and team members, as well highest individual scorers, Layton said.
