BLOOMINGTON – Bloomington North recorded a trio of hat tricks, all in the first half, as the Cougars blasted to a 16-0 victory over Bedford North Lawrence during girls high school soccer action on Monday.
Chloe Hendrix-Petry, Talya Chaveas and Izzy Himebaugh all posted three goals each while powering North to the mercy-rule victory.
“They scored their first few goals pretty quickly at the start of the game, and we really let it get the best of us,” BNL coach Bret Roberts said. “We didn’t play to our full potential after that. We are still learning our positions and it is hard to keep up with a team as talented and well established as North. Once it got in double digits (North led 15-0 at halftime), it was hard to keep the girls motivated.
“The second half we had a couple of breakaways and we got the ball close to their goal. We didn’t have any scoring opportunities but it helped put the spark back in them.”
North added additional goals by Sarah Goldsworthy (two), Sonia Butske (two), Heidi Chambre, Daphne Wright and Delaney Edwards.
The Stars (0-2) will visit Floyd Central on Aug. 23.
