Don C. Smallwood, M.D., 84, passed away on July 23, 2022, in Ocala, Florida.
He was born in Bedford on December 22, 1937, to Russell and Ruth Crusius Smallwood. He was married to Janet Richardson. Don graduated from the Indiana University School of Medicine and completed his Pediatric Internship and Residency at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida. He practiced medicine for 50 years in Florida and served his country in the Navy at the Key West Naval Station. Don dedicated his life to providing his patients with the best possible care and to being the best father and supporter of his family. He enjoyed the outdoor lifestyle that only Florida can provide and loved being on the water. He fished the waters around Key West, east of the Boynton Inlet, and Lake Okeechobee.
He was a dedicated runner who completed a marathon and qualified to run in the Boston Marathon. Don was a lifelong IU basketball fan and after his time in Gainesville, an everything Gator.
Don is survived by his wife of 61 years, Janet Smallwood; his daughter, Christy (Rob) Surgeoner; son, Dan Smallwood; daughter, Beth (Tim Burris) Smallwood; his grandchildren, Jack and Emily Surgeoner and Sarah and Paul Schindler; and a sister-in-law, Jean (Bruce) Montavon.

A memorial celebration of life will be held at the Elks Club, Pineapple Room, in Delray Beach, Florida on September 3rd from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
