COLUMBUS – Columbus East won two three-set matches while clipping Bedford North Lawrence 5-0 during boys high school tennis action on Monday.
The Stars (2-4) shuffled the lineup for a new look but lost three tough matches.
“We’re looking for the lineup that gives us the best chance to win, and tonight we made a few adjustments,” BNL coach Chris Kurtz said. “It was better team tennis, and I think this does make us more competitive across the lineup. Both doubles teams are new partnerships, and they’ll have to learn and adjust quickly. But even in the loss, we saw big improvements from last week.”
East’s Erik Takahashi rallied to edge Graham Turner 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 at No.1 singles, while Tyler Ernst and Henry Ulrich fought past new duo Gavin Baker and Carter Kimmel 6-7 (3-7 in the tiebreaker), 6-4, 6-4 at No.2 doubles. The Olympians also won a battle at No.1 doubles with Ethan Bumbalough and Jacob Dettmer stopping Jayden Kemp and Drew Stephenson 7-5, 6-4.
East’s Brady Redelman conquered Isaac Bridges 6-1, 6-4 at No.3 singles, while Matthew Degner swept Nate Pemberton 6-0, 6-0 at No.2.
BNL will host Jennings County on Tuesday.
