MITCHELL – The City of Mitchell approved an Officer Incentive package Monday night, in an attempt to draw more officers to the area, with the hopes of retaining them long term.
Experienced officers new to the department must complete a full year with the department, where they will then receive a $5,000 sign-on bonus that has been included in the approved 2023 budget. Officers will also carry over any vacation time as well as sick leave from their services rendered during their previous employment.
“If an officer who has served 12 years with another department transfers to Mitchell, they will carry over the time they have earned for vacation and sick leave from the moment they are hired on. Once they hit the year mark, they will then be awarded the $5,000 bonus,” said Clerk/Treasurer Mark Bryant
The Council unanimously voted to include the sign-on bonus, which was voted to begin immediately upon passage.
