MITCHELL – The City of Mitchell continued their discussion on implementing speed limit changes on select streets that have proven to be a concern for community members Monday night.
The initial motion was raised by Councilmember Nathan Jenkins of the consistent speeding he has either witnessed or been made aware of along North 9th Street, between Main Street and Hancock Avenue, along the route currently under construction with the High School’s capital project.
Additional streets of concern include:
- Rabbitsville Road, between Hancock Avenue and Hamilton Boulevard
- Warren Street from the railroad tracks/5th Street to Meridian Road
- Brook Street from the Mitchell Cemetery to the railroad tracks
- 12th Street from Brook Street to Hancock Avenue
- Main Street from the railroad track to Lehigh/County Road 100 E
A motion was made in part to approve the speed limit changes to 20 MPH. The first motion was approved, with two more sets to be approved in the November meeting. The safety of the community remains the top priority for the city.
