Traffic change on 7 1/2 Street coming in Bedford

BEDFORD – Bedford Police Chief Terry Moore shared a concern with the Board of Works and Safety, and the City Council on Monday about a roadway that needs to be adjusted due to safety concerns.

7 1/2 Street, between Lincoln Avenue and O Street, has proven to be an issue as the roadway has a two-way section of travel, while the remainder of the street is one-way traffic.

Chief Moore discovered this issue when meeting with Lincoln Plaza Pharmacy and their plans to include a drive-through pharmacy window. The roadway does not fit the required width to be a one-way street, and a home on the corner of the alley way behind the plaza on 7 1/2 Street, causes an obstructed view for drivers.

Chief Moore made the recommendation to make 7 1/2 Street all one-way, from the east to west, or from Lincoln Avenue to O Street, and include one-way traffic signs for motorists.

Additionally, Chief Moore would like to include stop signs at the end of the alley way, to help alleviate any traffic hazards for motorists. This will await final passage until the November meeting to allow the public enough time to voice their concern over the stop signs.

The 7 1/2 one-way request was approved and will begin the traffic change process. The alley way discussion died for a lack of motion, and can be revisited at a later date if necessary.
