BEDFORD – Lawrence Superior Court I Judge John Plummer III sentenced a Paoli man to two years in the Indiana Department of Correction for violating the terms of his probation.
Sean Collier, 35, pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony, in September of 2021 as a part of a negotiated plea agreement with the State of Indiana.
Collier was arrested in August 2020 by the Bedford Police Department after a traffic stop where he was found to be in possession of methamphetamine. As part of the negotiated plea agreement, Collier was required to successfully complete 730 days of supervised probation, complete ADAPT Classes and 40 hours of community service. Collier failed to comply with the terms of the agreement by failing to attend appointments with his Probation officer, failing to complete his Community Service, and scheduling his ADAPT assessment.
“Any Level 6 Felony case charged before July of 2022 was required to be sentenced to the local jail and not automatically to the Indiana Department of Corrections, this created a tremendous financial burden to the Lawrence County taxpayer, and as a result, my office would structure pleas that would focus on rehabilitation as to sentences to the Lawrence County Jail,” said Prosecutor Sam Arp. “Collier was given a tremendous opportunity to make positive changes in his life and follow the rules and made the choice not to take advantage of this opportunity and Judge Plummer’s sentence held him accountable for his actions”.
