BEDFORD – A Bedford woman was arrested on Sunday, October 16, 2022, when Bedford Police officers were called to the 900 block of 18th Street after a report from the homeowner that individuals were being detained by her husband. The caller said she was armed with a handgun.
When police arrived, the female homeowner reported those involved had left.
An individual on J Street told police the male involved had fled into the nearby wood line. Officers entered the woods and detained a male.
Officers found the female, 45-year-old Shannon Rishforth hiding under a purple sleeping bag three houses south of the caller’s home on 18th Street.
Police say Rishforth was intoxicated and she was detained.
Rishforth was then administered a preliminary breath test, which produced a positive result of alcohol 0.293Â blood alcohol content.
The homeowners said Rishforth had caused prior issues for the family and wanted to press charges. They also were able to take possession of the gun.
The male was not intoxicated and he was released from the scene.
Rishforth was transported to IU Health Hospital for a medical evaluation due to her level of intoxication.
While at the hospital, Rishforth became verbally aggressive and refused to cooperate. Â
 Once cleared, she was arrested on charges of public intoxication, and disorderly conduct.
Rishforth continued to be aggressive while being transported to the Bedford Police Department and the jail.
