MITCHELL — A driver of an SUV died after colliding with a dump truck Monday on State Road 60 in Mitchell.
The accident was reported at 11:23 a.m. at the intersection of State Road 60 East and Noe Road.
Emergency crews worked several hours investigating the accident and cleaning up the scene, closing both lanes of travel.
The driver, whose name has not been released, was the only person injured in the crash, according to Lawrence County Sheriff Mike Branham.
“Due to the severity of the crash, it has not yet been determined if there is more than one occupant in the passenger vehicle,” Branham said.
Bedford Fire Department, Marion Township Volunteer Fire Department, an IU Lifeline Ambulance, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, deputies, and AirEvac Air Ambulance were dispatched to the scene. The air ambulance was called off while en-route.
State Road 60’s eastbound lane was reopened at 2 p.m. and the westbound lane of traffic was detoured.
