Tom Elliott, Bedford Recreation Foundation Board President, and Joey Elliott, Tournament Director said having the opportunity to give back is one of the biggest reasons for this donation.

“We are very pleased and proud to be able to continue to support one of our county’s most valuable assets, The Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence County, through the money received at The Annual Claude Akins Memorial Golf Tournament. Without the continuing support year in and year out from our sponsors, players, and volunteers this would not be possible. This is one of the many ways that we as a Board for the BRF can maintain our continuing efforts to give back, not only to this valuable organization but, to many other worthwhile and deserving entities, organizations, and projects within our community to make it a better place for all that are here or that may visit.”

In the past years, donations such as this have gone into a variety of different ways for funding within the Club, including overall safety, programming, and operational funds. This donation will be used in a different capacity this year, going towards the athletics department as an Athletic All Sports Sponsorship to help provide the necessary needs of the club athletes.

“This gracious gift from the BRF will encompass what we strive for within our sports and athletics at the club,” said Decker. “Athletics include basketball, baseball, cheerleading, football, gymnastics, karate, and volleyball, and the expenses within these sports include various athletic equipment purchases, awards, and uniforms for each sport. Baseball and football are the most expensive sports with the equipment and upkeep on our Wiley Park facility are easily our two biggest athletic expenses.”

The club currently has three basketball sponsors for 2022 and four all sport sponsors for 2022 including:

  • TCI Turner Contracting, Mass Excavation, and Mining – All Sports
  • Citiloo Power – All Sports
  • W F Meyers – All Sports
  • Bedford Recreation Foundation – All Sports
  • DAV Disabled American Veterans – Basketball
  • Brad Bough – Basketball
  • Pro Lawn and Deck Care – Basketball

The club is always looking for additional sponsors to help the program and children participating by providing individual sports sponsorships and/or all sports sponsors to help with athletic expenses. Those interested in becoming a sponsor can call the Boys & Girls Club at (812) 279-6123.
