Springville man threatens to shove a knife in his mother’s throat and is arrested

SPRINGVILLE – A Springville man was arrested after a Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputy was alerted that a man was threatening to put a knife to the caller’s throat and take his children.

Officers responded to a house in the 600 block of Bedford Street.

Jordan Cobb

When police arrived, they found 54-year-old Jordan Cobb walking with a metal pole. Cobb was told to drop the pole which he did. Officers noticed Cobb had a knife holstered on his right leg with multiple knives in it.

Cobb was asked what he was doing and he replied “I want my kids back”.

Cobb reached into his pocket and pulled out another knife when officers asked if he had any other weapons on him.

Cobb told police he was “trying to go to his parent’s house to get his kids because there is no reason he should not have them” and said “I am not going back to jail” and began to walk away from the officers.

Cobb then told the officers he was “nuts” and said his mother had called the police because “I threatened her”.

Cobb told the officers, “I told her to give me my kids or I would shove a kitchen knife in her throat”. Cobb then told the officers he “was dying” and needed methadone.

Cobb was detained and transported to   Bloomington Hospital for a mental evaluation.

The probable cause affidavit stated officers have responded to the resident six times from September 14, 2022, to October 21, 2022.

The information was forwarded to the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office and a warrant was issued for Cobb’s arrest on a charge of intimidation.
