BEDFORD – Crews continue to work on Lawrence County Bridge 138 carrying East Oolitic Road over Salt Creek.
Highway Superintendent Brandi Webb reported to the commissioners Tuesday morning that crews are working on the approaches and the bridge should be open next week weather permitting.
The bridge was closed in August.
The work consisted of bearing replacement and relocation, the removal of a portion of the bridge deck, hydro demolition, the installment of a new bridge deck overlay, and the replacement of the expansion joints. There will be approximately 100 feet of approach work associated with this project.
Webb also reported the first phase of bridge inspections is completed. Three weight limits were decreased on three county bridges.
- Bridge 33 on Pinhook Road was lowered to 28 tons
- Bridge 146 on Hunters Creek Road was lowered to 17 tons
- Bridge 36 on Lucas Road was lowered to 5 tons
Webb said officials will take a look at Bridge 36.
“The bridge needs a superstructure replacement,” Webb added. “This bridge is deteriorating rapidly.”
Highway crews are working on replacing culverts and cutting brush.
