BEDFORD – Lawrence County Sheriff Mike Branham said the jail population Monday morning was 96 or at 53 percent capacity. Of those 81 are males, 15 are females, five are Level 6 felons, seven Department of Correction holds, and one parole hold.
With the jail population numbers down the inmates have been helping the staff complete needed repairs to the jail.
“They are helping to paint all the cell blocks, desks, and tables and painting the day room,” added Sheriff Branham. “We are getting ready to paint the bars on the cells and more tables. We are getting a lot done. They also have moved a lot of files that were kept in a back hallway to storage at Dunn Plaza opening up that hallway.”
Sheriff Branham along with Judge Bob Cline and Commissioner Wally Branham and ISP Sgt. Greg Day attended a court security training.
“We learned some new information and will be bringing some of those things we learned forward to make security better,” added Sheriff Branham.
