Jewel Dean Taylor, 85, of Mitchell, passed away Friday, November 4, 2022, at her residence.
Born April 27, 1937, in Jonesville, Virginia, she was the daughter of Grady and Laura (Buttery) Ramsey. She married Eli Taylor, Jr. on September 4, 1976, and he preceded her in death on August 6, 2006.
Jewel retired after 15 years as a correctional officer with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department. She was a member of Beach Grove Baptist Church in Virginia and attended the Mitchell Wesleyan Church. Jewel was a member of the Mitchell Senior Citizens, where she had served as an officer.
Survivors include her daughters, Joyce Reynolds Rightsell of Mitchell and Debbie (Lyle) Pottoroff of Princeton; step-daughters, Sharon Winston of Bloomington and Debbie (Joe) Wilson of Bedford; step-son, Ben (Tina) Taylor of Bedford; grandchildren, Shannon (Amy) Doan of Paoli, Tina (Dan) Andis of Princeton, and Lisa (Mike) Glover of Bone Gap, Illinois; several great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; and brother-in-law, Don Eads of Bedford.
Her parents; husband; sisters, Beulah Eads and Betty Rainey; and brother, Avil Ramsey, preceded her in death.
Cremation has been chosen with a graveside at Patton Hill at a later date.
