A new face will join the Mitchell Community School Board, as Krystal Shetler wins big Tuesday

MITCHELL – The Mitchell Community School board will have a new face, after Krystal Shetler came up with the most votes Tuesday, as she is set to join the board at the start of the new year.

Krystal Shetler

Shetler, who received 1,799 votes (36.80 percent), will be replacing Cynthia Brooking on the board, after having the highest vote total of the five vying for a seat at the table.

In a post on her Facebook page, Krystal shared, “We did it!!! I’m practically speechless. Thank you. Thank you, voters. This is ALL because of you. Thank you to my family for having a high-strung and somewhat absentee wife, mother, daughter, and sister over the past two months. Thank you to my friends for keeping me sane and laughing through this journey. I love you. Thank you to my husband, who is a political machine. He saw the best in me, and he gave me confidence. There’s no way I can thank him for pushing me out of my comfort zone. Congratulations to all the winners tonight, but also to EVERYONE who stuck themselves out there for the betterment of our community and school system. I’m extremely proud of every single one of you. Now, I plan to get to work for you!

Krystal is looking forward to the challenge of joining the school board and knows there is a lot of work ahead.

“This journey has taught me a lot about our community. It allowed me to meet wonderful people, share goals and discuss what the future looks like for Mitchell Community Schools. It was a hard campaign. We worked tirelessly toward this goal, but now the real work is just beginning. I can only hope my voice helps make a difference. It was the voters who got me here, but it was my family and friends who supported me unconditionally over the past three months. I also want to thank Cindy Brooking, Adrienne Lipp, Chris Bowles, and Chris Shaw for seeking election and running clean campaigns. I know all of them personally, and I respect their commitment to our schools.”

Christopher Shaw

Christopher Shaw, who served as the MCS School Board President this last year, was also voted in to remain on the board, edging out Christopher Bowles by 180 votes. Shaw received a total of 1,246 votes or 25.49 percent of the votes.

The total vote count for the MCS School Board is listed below:
