BEDFORD – On Monday, November 7th at 3:07 p.m. Bedford Police Department Dispatch received a 911 call reporting a physical fight occurring near the intersection of 3rd and S streets.
When officers arrived four people were standing in the front yard of 329 S Street. The individuals included two victims and two residents.Â
One of the victims told police the individuals involved were in possession of multiple guns and fled the scene. The suspects were a large black male and a skinny blonde male. Â
Officers located two individuals 18-year-old Juan Morgan, of Bedford, and 18-year-old Isaac Denton, of Peru, near the intersection of 4th and R streets. Neither males were in possession of any firearms.
Two firearms were located in a trash can in the 1000 block of 4th Street after police searched the area. The firearms were a silver and black Smith and Wesson SD40 VE and a black Radical Firearm RF-15 rifle. Once the firearms were located, Denton asked if he could speak to an officer.
Denton told police he hid his gun because he did not have a permit to carry it.Â
A male victim told police that he and his mother arrived at his girlfriend’s house because she had blocked his phone number. The male victim observed Morgan and Denton near the roadway in the girlfriend’s yard when he exited the vehicle. Denton raised his shirt to reveal a handgun located in his waistband and stated “You do not want this smoke” as the victim attempted to pass by them. He stated that he then approached Denton, and was struck by Morgan. He was then taken to the ground and all three individuals began to fight. While the three individuals were fighting, the victim told police his mother attempted to help him and was shoved by Morgan causing her to fall into their vehicle. The fight ended shortly after his mother was shoved. Â
The mother and second victim told police she attempted to remove her son from the fight and that is when Morgan shoved her causing her to fall back onto the vehicle. Â
She was concerned about her back and requested medical assistance. She told police she was scheduled to have an operation on her back later this week. The female was evaluated by an IU Health Ambulance crew.
A male witness told police Morgan initiated the fight and he confirmed Morgan shoved the woman.Â
Morgan did admit that he had struck the male victim first however it was to protect the female and Denton because the male victim was aggressive toward them.Â
Morgan admitted to hiding the rifle in the trash can.
Morgan and Denton were detained. Morgan faces charges of obstruction of justice and battery. Denton faces charges of obstruction of justice, intimidation with a deadly weapon, and giving police a false name.
