HELTONVILLE – A Heltonville woman was arrested on a domestic battery causing injury on Saturday, November 5th.
Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to the 2000 block of Hickory Grove Road after a request for a welfare check on a female juvenile due to blood coming from her right ear.
When police arrived the 12-year-old said 31-year-old Courtney Hignite, had grabbed her left ear and began pulling it “with great force”. She told police she began yelling and was able to get away from Hignite. She then ran to the neighbor’s house and they called the police.
The female told police the altercation began when Hignite told the child “don’t fling anything at me”. The child thought Hignite was being sarcastic and playful, so the child flicked a bacon bit at Hignite. That is when Hignite got angry and started yelling at the child. She then grabbed the child by the ear and pulled her out of the kitchen.
Police said the child suffered a long tear between her ear and her head.
Officers then spoke to Hignite who told police the child had flicked a bacon bit at her and she told the child to go to her room. She told police she grabbed the child by the ear and pulled the child toward her room from the kitchen.
She stated the child did yell and pulled away from her. She claimed she attempted to follow the child after she walked out of the residence toward the neighbor’s house and asked her to come back and talk about it.
Hignite was detained on a charge of domestic battery causing injury.
