BEDFORD – Bedford’s Englewood fire station is currently closed after birds have entered the building, causing health concerns for firefighters.
The crews at the fire station are currently being housed at Bedford Fire Headquarters until work can be completed on cleaning the facility. This has been an issue in the past, that will hopefully be resolved soon.
“We are wanting to get the facility opened as soon as possible due to the safety of the public,” said Mayor Craig.
A total of four bids were received and reviewed during a special Board of Works meeting Tuesday, which saw Bluemoose Environmental, Bloomington, receive the contract for $13,900, the lowest bid received. The City of Bedford has worked with Bluemoose in prior instances, and according to Bedford Mayor Sam Craig, the city has been pleased with their services.
Bluemoose will begin the cleaning process on Wednesday, November 16th, and is expected to take four to five days to complete the work.
The Board of Works will meet again on Monday, November 21st to determine the next steps on necessary repairs to the building that may be needed, to alleviate the issue and ensure it does not occur again.
