BEDFORD – A Bedford woman was arrested Sunday night after a Bedford police officer spotted a gray Nissan Altima traveling north on Mitchell Road.
The officer reported the driver of the vehicle drove over the fog line three times between the State Road 37 overpass and M&E Honda.
The officer initiated a traffic stop at Mitchell Road and T Street.
The male driver appeared nervous and his hands were shaking uncontrollably. The male said he suffered from fetal alcohol syndrome and it had caused permanent nerve damage.
There was a front seat passenger, identified as 34-year-old Brittany McHugh, 34, of Marengo, the driver, and a passenger in the rear seat who identified herself as “Hannah Clark”. While on the scene Clark’s aunt arrived to take a small child who was also in the vehicle home. The officer thought this was odd being no one in the vehicle had been detained. Clark then told the officer she called her aunt because she believed she had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in Lawrence County.
The officer was then given consent to search the vehicle after canine Zazu alerted officers to possible drugs in the vehicle. Nothing was located in the vehicle.
The officer then learned that “Clark” had given him a false name and she was later identified as 29-year-old Hannah Brock.
Brock was not wanted on a warrant but she was detained on charges of false informing and identity deception.
The driver stated that McHugh had drugs in her possession. At first, McHugh denied the allegations, but then told police she had “stuff in her pants”.
McHugh was detained on charges of possession of meth and unlawful possession of syringes and obstruction of justice.
Both women were transported to the Bedford Police Department for processing and the male driver was released from the scene.
