NASHVILLE — DNR crews returned to the scene of a brush fire at Brown County State Park at 7:30 a.m. Monday. They expect to have the brush fire under control later in the day. The DNR said the crew working the fire Monday is DNR due to challenging terrain.
According to DNR, the cool-weather and frost this morning keeping the fire at bay.
Firefighters responded to a brush fire in Brown County State Park at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.
The fire was located on the east side of the state park. Smoke from the fire could be seen near the intersection of State Road 46 and State Road 135.
Firefighters from the Department of Natural Resources, Hamblen, Nashville, Southern Brown County, and Harrison Township VFD from Bartholomew County responded to the scene
Marty Benson, assistant director of communications with DNR said the fire was a large fire but was spreading slowly.
As of 10 p.m. Sunday, Benson confirmed that the fire was still active, but not threatening any structures. Local fire crews have left the park, but DNR’s Fire Headquarters units are still on the scene.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
