Barbara Hillenburg, 87, of Bedford died Friday, November 25, 2022, at her residence.
Born April 28, 1935, in Martin County, she was the daughter of Beryl J. and Frances Elizabeth (Owens) Pruett. She married Charles Hillenburg on May 3, 1953.
Barbara’s first job was working for Walls and Walls Insurance in Bedford, she then went to work at the Fayetteville school where she worked many years as a teacher’s aide, she later retired from the Dollar General Store on the Bedford Square where she was the manager. She attended the Fayetteville Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Charlie of Bedford; a daughter Debbie Emmons and her husband Stephen Lopp of Bedford; two grandchildren, Amanda Wright, and her husband Chad of Bedford, Michael Emmons, and his wife Lorie of Bedford; five great-grandchildren: Kody Emmons and Ashlyn Bender, Ellie Emmons and her fiancé Allen Huffman, Levi Wright and his wife Sadie, Larissa Wright and Bradley Crane, and Logan Wright and his fiancé Laney Hayes; a great-great-grandson, Grayson Laine Wright; a sister, Mary Lou Thompson, and her husband Harold of Bedford.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Steven E. Hillenburg, and three brothers, Robert D. Pruett, James G. Pruett, Glen D. Pruett, and one sister, Marilyn Jean Conrad.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 1st in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Kenny Walden officiating. Burial will follow in the New Union Christian Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 30th, and from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service on Thursday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
