BLOOMINGTON – Monroe Fire Protection District responded to the 9000 block of West State Road 45 Tuesday after a report of a structure Fire.
When firefighters arrived they found a partially collapsed barn engulfed in flames. They requested additional manpower and tanker support from Center-Jackson Fire Territory, Beech Creek Township Fire Department in Greene County. An IU Lifeline ambulance and Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies also responded to the scene.
The location of the fire was down a long driveway making access for fire trucks difficult and slowing water supply resources.
The land was being cleared of trees and brush and they were burning brush piles to get rid of the debris. Hot embers from the brush piles blew onto the barn catching it on fire. The barn was full of landscaping cloth material.
The wind also blew embers from the barn into a wooded area creating approximately a 5-acre of brush on fire. The barn was full of landscaping cloth material.
Firefighters remained on the scene for several hours working to contain the brush fire, extinguishing the barn, and soaking down hot spots.
Shortly after firefighters arrived at this fire the remaining MFD stations were dispatched to Weimer Road and also to Garrison Chapel Road for possible brush fires. Firefighters were assisted by Ellettsville Fire Department on that Garrison Chapel Road fire.
