ORLEANS – All animals need special care in the wintertime. Make sure animals have plenty of water for hydration and that they have access to food.
Make sure water containers are checked frequently due to water freezing and plenty of food to help maintain body temperature.
Shelter is a necessity to keep animals dry and out of the wind. be sure straw or some type of bedding is available in the shelter for warmth.
Please remember animals feel cold, thirst, hunger, and fear just as humans do. When temperatures fall below freezing it may be necessary to bring the animal inside to avoid undue stress and suffering depending on the type of animal and breed.Â
The Orleans Marshal’s office will respond to any complaints of neglect or abuse regarding animals not properly cared for.Â
If resources limit your ability to care for domestic animals contact your local humane society for assistance. Also, remember the humane society when making any donations as they are always in need of financial assistance to continue the good work they do.
