SULLIVAN CO. – A Shelburn woman died Monday from injuries she suffered after being hit by a train Sunday night.
Sullivan County Sheriff Clark Cottom says at 8:25 p.m. Sunday, 38-year-old Ashley Lewis was walking west on Mill Street and had just crossed the CSX rail crossing, when she was grazed by a northbound locomotive, resulting in life-threatening injuries.
Lewis was transported by ambulance to a Terre Haute hospital and then flown by Lifeline helicopter to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis where she succumbed to her injuries early Monday morning
Cottom said investigating deputies met with CSX Authorities and rail police late Sunday.
