BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested when Bedford Police officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of M Street after a report of an attempted residential entry.
When police arrived, the homeowner said the male that attempted to break into his home took off walking toward the Mark III Motel.
The homeowner told police that a male wearing a black coat and blue jeans opened their screen door and attempted to open the front door. The female homeowner opened the front door to see who it was and found a male she didn’t know. She told police, the male was “unintelligible”. She then asked her husband to check on the male and when he opened the door the male said “I guess Ashley does not live here anymore” and walked away. The homeowners told police the man was intoxicated and unsteady on his feet.
When officers searched the area for the male, they found 38-year-old John Luttrell, who was wearing what the homeowner had described in the parking lot of the Mark III Motel on Mitchell Road.
Luttrell refused to stop when police voiced the order. Luttrell would not comply with the officer’s orders and eventually was forcibly detained. Luttrell appeared to be intoxicated. Officers found multiple knives, a plastic baggy containing marijuana, and a marijuana cigarette in his pockets.
This was the second encounter officers had with Luttrell that day. The first was when officers responded to Total Tan on M Street after a report of a suspicious male at the establishment. Luttrell was intoxicated at that time and told to go home and stay there or he would be arrested.
Luttrell was transported to the Bedford Police Department and then to the Lawrence County Jail on charges of public intoxication, resisting arrest by force, residential entry, and possession of marijuana.
