Police detect marijuana odor during a traffic stop and arrest Mitchell man

MITCHELL – A Mitchell man was arrested on drug charges after a Mitchell Police officer stopped his vehicle at the intersection of State Road 60 East and South Meridian Road on Saturday night.

The officer stopped the driver for no operative license plate light.

When the officer approached the driver’s door he could smell the odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle.

Dalton Burton

The driver was 26-year-old Dalton Burton, of Mitchell and there was a female passenger in the vehicle.

Burton was asked to step out of the vehicle and was asked about the marijuana. Burton admitted he had marijuana and showed it where it was located. When officers asked Dalton if there was anything else in the vehicle he told officers there may be a couple of marijuana roaches in the center console. Officers conducted a search of the vehicle at that time.

Under the front seat, police found pieces of a burnt marijuana roach. In the back seat officers located a red watch box. Inside was the tip of a glass smoking device. Beside the box was another aluminum box that contained tattoo equipment and syringes. Under the aluminum box, police found a plate that had burnt THC wax and white residue on it that tested positive for meth.

Dalton admitted all the illegal items were his. Dalton was arrested on charges of possession of meth, unlawful possession of a syringe, and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He was also given a written warning due to the license plate light being inoperable. The female was released from the scene.
