John Noblitt re-elected Orleans Town Council President

ORLEANS – John F. Noblitt was re-elected Orleans Town Council President during the council’s first Work/Study Session of 2023.  The meeting also served as the council’s Annual Reorganizational meeting for the new year

Council members agreed to keep the council meeting dates and times the same for the new year.  A general work/study session is held on the first Wednesday of each month beginning at 9 a.m.  The regular town council meeting will remain the third Thursday of each month, but with a new start time of 5 p.m. instead of the previous 6 p.m.

All current town department heads were retained for 2023 in their current capacity.  A contract for legal services was approved once again for John-Paul Isom to serve as town attorney.

The council also made a number of appointments for the coming year.  Randy Clark will serve as the town’s representative on the Indiana 15 Regional Planning Commission. John Noblitt will continue to serve on the Orange County Solid Waste Board. Randy Clark will also be the town’s representative on the Orange County Economic Development Partnership (OCEDP).

Other re-appointments made include:

  • Ernie Crane to Orleans Board of Zoning Appeals
  • Justin Davis to Orleans Cemetery Board
  • Tommy Adams to Orleans Airport Board of Commissioners
  • Ronnie Roach to the Orange County Emergency Management Advisory Council.

Appointments for the Orleans Summer League Advisory Board were tabled until the regular meeting on January 19th.

The council also approved an ordinance vacating a platted alley located between 5th and 6th streets.

The council also signed off on a Training Reimbursement Agreement for departments other than police and fire.

Town Clerk Robert Henderson noted that the LED upgrades with Duke Energy were nearing completion.  The new lighting fixtures meet current and far past lighting standards.  In addition, the new lights use significantly reduced energy and last longer.  The town will benefit from the energy efficiency rebate being offered through Duke.
