BEDFORD – A Bedford woman was arrested on New Year’s Day after Bedford Police discovered drugs in her vehicle during a routine traffic stop, according to the probable cause affidavit.
Police said they stopped 33-year-old Stephanie Webb, of Bedford for failing to use her turn signal while making an abrupt turn onto 16th Street from N Street.
Webb, along with her 5-year-old daughter, who was in the back seat of the car at the time, came to a stop in the parking lot of a nearby Dollar General, where she told police the vehicle did not belong to her and she did not grant them permission to initiate a search. Soon after, BPD canine Zazu was requested to the scene, police said.
Police said they then discovered Webb was driving on a suspended driver’s license with a prior conviction.
After arriving at the scene, police said Zazu alerted them to drugs on the driver’s side of the vehicle, where they eventually located three hypodermic syringes, two of which were loaded with a clear liquid substance that tested positive for meth, a small plastic tube inside the pouch yielding a positive result for meth and a small glass container containing marijuana.
Webb told police that the illegal items did not belong to her.
Webb was then detained on charges of possession of meth in the presence of a minor, neglect of a dependent, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, unlawful possession of a syringe, and driving while driver’s license suspended with a prior conviction. She was also given a written warning for failing to use her turn signal.
A family member picked up Webb’s daughter from the scene.
The vehicle was towed by Stone City Wrecker Service.
The Department of Child Services was also alerted about the incident.
