SEYMOUR – Officials are saying it could take more than a week to fix a storm sewer that collapsed Tuesday in downtown Seymour.
The collapsed storm sewer is in the eastbound lane and the turning lane of Tipton Street between Pine Street and Walnut Street in front of Schneck Medical Center.
The turning lane and the inside eastbound lane are closed during the repair.
Seymour Water Pollution Control Director Jarin Gladstein said underneath the storm sewer were some old brick and mortar that deteriorated over time and caused the collapse.
Crews from Lawyer Excavation Inc. of Seymour are excavating the area to replace the brick with a concrete structure and add a new plastic pipe to replace the clay tile pipe that was damaged.
