A male pedestrian was killed after being hit by a train in Bloomington Monday night

BLOOMINGTON – Monroe County Coroner Joani Stalcup has confirmed that a 58-year-old man died from his injuries after being struck by a train Monday night.

The incident was reported at 10:30 p.m. involving an Indiana Railroad freight train. The man’s body was found on the tracks near 7th and Hopewell streets.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld until notification to next of kin.

The train was stopped on the tracks just west of Rev. Ernest D. Butler Park on 9th Street.

Third Street at South Muller Way was blocked by the train for several hours while Bloomington Police investigated the incident.
